3rd Grade Curriculum

Here is just a small glimpse of what we learn every year in our classroom.

Math:

We have Saxon Math.  Each day we learn a new skill along with reviewing the old ones.  Every day we work with the calendar, money, and time.  We skip count, have a daily number pattern, problem of the day, and we work with the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.

English:

We focus on the parts of a sentence; nouns, verbs, adjectives, punctuation, etc.  We also work through many different projects using the writing process.

Reading:

Each week we focus on a story and work on different reading and comprehension skills.  We cover a wide variety of genres.  We practice phonetic spelling patterns and study different word parts.  We also incorporate independent reading through book clubs and book reports

Science:

We study Life, Earth, and Physical Science.  We participate in STEM activities as well as different experiments.

Social Studies:

We learn about different types of communities, map skills, the history of our country and our state, and government.

Religion

We learn about Jesus’ mission and teachings, the Holy Spirit, Mary, and we review the Sacraments.  We also learn about the Feasts and Seasons of the Church Year, the Rosary, and prayer.
