Sausage & Chicken Dinners
SAUSAGE DINNER
In 1961 the St. John Gildehaus Parsh began holding their annual Sausage Festival on the 4th Sunday in October. Over the years the event has grown into a tradition that many from surrounding communities come to enjoy. The meal consists for homemade pork sausage (made the week of the dinner by the men of the parish at a local meat market), sauerkraut, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade apple butter (made fresh the week of the dinner), bread and our delicious baked apples with ice cream. Other activities available are our Country Store, Children’s Room, Bake Sale, Craft Room, Pillow Room, Raffles and Build Your Own Scarecrow tent.
CHICKEN DINNER
In the spring of 1965 St. John Gildehaus began holding their annual Chicken Dinner on the 2nd Sunday in March. Just like the sausage festival the Men are responsible for cooking and serving this wonderful meal. Come experience this marvelous meal that consists of Deep-fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, cabbage slaw and homemade pies. Activities that are also available during the event are the Country Store, Craft Room, Pillow Room, Children’s Room, Bake Sale and Raffles.
